Post-Conference Workshop: The Economics of Climate Change

Climate change is one of the most important contemporary issues of our time. The agri-food supply chain is sensitive to weather and thus directly affected by climate change. Climate change poses considerable challenges to every aspect of the global food supply chain economy. Agricultural and resource economists can contribute to our understanding of the economics of climate change by assessing agri-food producers’ behavioural response to climate change, evaluating the economic costs of adaptation and mitigation strategies, and informing economic policies. This 180-minutes virtual workshop brings together top agricultural economics scholars in climate economics to share and discuss research on the topic. In this workshop, panellists will discuss and share their research on the agri-food economy and sustainability, crop yield and risk management, adaptation behaviour in the face of climate change. Experts from Statistics Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will share information on emissions data and procedures for accessing emissions data. This workshop is targeted toward government policy analysts and academic researchers who wish to conduct economic research related to climate change.
