CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Deadline:  February 13, 2026, 11:59 pm Pacific Time

The CAES Annual Meeting Program Committee invites you to participate in the 2026 Canadian Agricultural Economics Society (CAES/SCAÉ) Annual Meeting, Ottawa, June 3-5, 2026. We are accepting submissions of abstracts for the Selected Paper program, Graduate Student Paper Competition, and proposals for Organized Sessions.

SELECTED PAPERS

Submissions on any aspect of agricultural or resource economics, including research, teaching, and/or outreach, are encouraged. This includes, but is not limited to, the following fields: agribusiness; agricultural finance; agricultural marketing, demand, and price analysis; community and regional economics; consumer and household economics; environmental and resource economics; experimental and behavioral economics; food and agricultural policy; international trade and development; production economics and farm/ranch management; quantitative and research methods.

Registration and Membership Requirements:

  • Presenters must be members of the CAES and registered for the Annual Meeting by April 15, 2026. Registration will open in February 2026.
  • Each member may be the primary/presenting/contact author on up to two submitted abstracts, but there are no limits to co-authorship on other abstracts submitted by other individuals.

Submission Instructions:

  • Proposals must be submitted in DOC, DOCX, or PDF format and cannot exceed 1,000 words excluding references.
  • References may be included in the submission.
  • To facilitate the blind review process, please do not place the author(s) name(s) on the abstract.
  • A suggested format for the abstract is as follows: Title, Problem Statement/Research Questions and/or Objectives, Data and Methods, Results or Expected Results, and Implications

Submission Website and Procedures:

After navigating to the conference software website: https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/CAES2026/

  1. If you have not submitted through the CMT system in the past, you will need to first create a user account by clicking the “Register” in the online system.
  2. After you log in to the system, click “+ Create new submission” located in the top left corner in the Author Console.
  3. Enter the title of your paper.
  4. The section “AUTHORS” should list your e-mail address, fist and last names, organization, and country.
  5. To add more authors, please enter the e-mail address of your co-author and click “+ Add.” Fill in the fields to provide the first and last names, organization, and country of your co-author(s) and click “+ Add.” Repeat this process to add more co-authors.
  6. You can reorder authors using the up and down arrows. You may also designate one author as the primary contactby clicking on the radio button “Primary Contact.” The Primary Contact author will be assumed to be the presenting author.
  7. In the section “SUBJECT AREAS,” select the submission category. Under the category “2. Selected Papers,”please choose the specific topic area that best characterizes your paper. If you are a graduate student and select a topic area under “2. Selected Papers,” your submission will NOT be considered for the Graduate Student Paper Competition.
  8. To upload your proposal in DOC, DOCX, or PDF format, click “Upload from Computer” and select the file.
  9. Click “Submit.” You will receive a notice of your submission.

Topic Areas: Select a topic area that matches the paper’s contribution most closely to help determine who reviews the paper:

  1. Graduate Student Paper Competition
  2. Selected Papers
  • Agribusiness
  • Agricultural finance
  • Agricultural marketing, demand, and price analysis
  • Community and regional economics
  • Consumer and household economics
  • Environmental and resource economics
  • Experimental and behavioral economics
  • Food and agricultural policy
  • International trade and development
  • Production economics and farm/ranch management
  • Quantitative and research methods

Selection and Notification:

  • Selection will be based on input from blind peer reviews.
  • Authors will be advised on the status of their proposals by March 25, 2026.

GRADUATE STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION

The competition is open to both master’s and doctoral students. To be eligible for this competition, a student must: a) be the lead author on the selected paper; and b) be able to submit the full paper by May 8th, 2026. Only abstracts are required by the February 13 deadline. Selected participants will be contacted for more details.

Submissions should be based on academic research papers on any aspect of agricultural or resource economics. Papers not selected for the Graduate Student Paper Competition may still be considered for inclusion in the CAES Selected Paper sessions.

Selection will be based on feedback from blind peer reviews and a committee decision led by the Graduate Paper Competition Chair.

  • 1st Prize: CAD $500 and an award certificate
  • 2nd Prize: CAD $300 and an award certificate
  • 3rd Prize: CAD $200 and an award certificate

Submission Instructions:

The formatting requirements and submission procedures are the same as for Selected Papers. The only difference is that in the “SUBJECT AREAS” section, you must select “Graduate Student Paper Competition.”

ORGANIZED SYMPOSIA

Organized sessions provide an opportunity to explore ideas that are relevant to the CAES and agricultural economics discipline. We are particularly interested in exploring novel formats, new ideas, and broader engagement strategies. We encourage members to make the most of this opportunity.

Registration and Membership Requirements:

  • Presenting authors must be members of CAES, and
  • Registered for the Annual Meeting by April 15th, 2026

Proposal Instructions:

  • Proposals should not exceed 1,000 words and be submitted as a PDF file with double spacing.
  • Papers should be original and not submitted elsewhere for presentation.
  • The session format is open and may involve panel discussions of prepared questions, debates, roundtable meetings, or other formats.

Proposals must include the following:

  • Session title
  • Description of the topic, including why it will generate discussion
  • Description of the session format
  • List of session participants and the role each will play in the session
  • List of paper or presentation titles, including all authors and affiliations

Selection and Notification:

  • A committee headed by the CAES President will evaluate the proposals.
  • Final selection of proposals will be based on a clearly worded rationale for their proposed organized symposium.
  • Authors will be advised on the status of their proposal(s) by March 25th, 2026

The Microsoft CMT service was used for managing the peer-reviewing process for this conference. This service was provided for free by Microsoft and they bore all expenses, including costs for Azure cloud services as well as for software development and support.
